Aos Fatos is a journalistic company trading name. It is registered under the CNPJ 22.408.117/0001-41 as a micro enterprise and its main activity, due to the absence of another legal term, is editing magazines and newspapers. 

The signatory did not send a copy of the document certifying its legal registration. However, a research on the Internet generates several results that confirms the association of the registration number in the CNPJ informed and the trade name of the company. Aos Fatos is registered as a media outlet and research institution. According to the signatory's statement, and attested by this assessor, there is no possibility to register a organization as a fact-checking company in the Brazilian business register.

In 2017, we put on air the Termometer session, that randomly displays on our homepage a variety of fact-checks from the president and his predecessors. We also display on our website menu the option to view our stories database by label: false, exaggerated, imprecise, true, contradictory and unsupportable.

Although the power gets a little more attention from the fact-checkers, the signatory makes a broad and balanced fact-checking of the politicians statements of different tendencies in Brazil. Diversity is clearly perceived when the fact-checks list is displayed. And the equilibrium is evident when using a filter provided by the site. This filter shows all the fact-checks sorted by label: true, false, exaggerated, inaccurate, contradictory and unsustainable. A section called a Thermometer randomly displays fact-checks of the president and his predecessors by identifying the number of fact-checks for each label.

All members of our team have a small profile on our website: https://aosfatos.org/nossa-equipe/. All of them are experienced journalists that are used to follow a strict code of ethics. In order to be admitted to Aos Fatos's team, our journalists verbally agree not to manifest themselves on social media towards any political preferences, either candidates or parties. They are also informed that they can't freelance at organisations that are related to political parties while working for Aos Fatos. It also means that, as we choose our fact-checkers, it is essencial that they are not formally engaged in any official or unofficial political activities. They, for instance, can't be affiliated with any political party. If otherwise our journalists choose to go against that requisites, they will be immediately removed from their positions.

Our journalists are free, however, to express critical thought on social media and any other media platforms if their subjects are related to fact-checking and journalism, as well as themes Aos Fatos stand up for: open data, transparency and accountability.

The evaluation did not perceive any support for any candidate or advocacy organizations or political parties. This independence is assumed on the page where the signatory describes its working method. On the same page, the signatory guarantees that it advises its collaborators to act in the same way, mainly in their personal profiles on social networks.

Our investigations use public data, that can be displayed by any other person with internet access. They are usually extracted from official databases, academic studies and/or FOIA requests. If they aren't available or if they are too raw, we organise them so that our readers can access them. Off the records sources are less common, and, if they are used, it is mainly to give context. Aos Fatos gives access to the original sources of data that served as a basis for their verification of data and facts. In most of the fact-checks assessed, the website uses public data that can be accessed by anyone.

The page "Nosso Método" on the signatory website explains in details the seven stages of the fact-checking methodology and describes the criteria for classifying the fact-checkings. There are six categories: true, inaccurate, exaggerated, false, contradictory or unsustainable. The link to this page is accessible on the footer of the website.

The "Checamos para você" page describes what is and what is not verifiable by the signatory's criteria, notice the team's inability to attend all requests and gives advice on what is more likely to be accepted for verification. The "Política de erros" page describes the signatory's correction policy. The content indicates that, "in case of need for correction, will be published at the end of the text a record of the publisher with the date and time of the correction and what information has changed".
