The applicant has a loose and little developed policy of non-partisanship, that allows staff members "may be registered" in political parties, expecting that "this should not affect their professional work as part of our website" (asssesor's translation).
This looseness as regards the political affiliation of the staff members is deemed objectionable. In order to strengthen the non-partisanship of Mala Espina Check, we kindly recommend the applicant to be more restrictive in this aspect, not allowing in any case the possibility of having employees enrolled in political parties of any ideology.

Methodology
Mala Espina Check carries out its verifications based on two methods: First, according to the information that our readers send us through social networks, email or WhatsApp, and also through an investigative work by the team to detect misinformation. in the various social networks, in addition to public discourse.
The selection of the material is made mainly based on the viralization of the content on the different platforms, and according to the public relevance of the topic to be addressed.
During the reporting, the original and official sources are contacted, as well as alternative sources such as experts or specialists in the subject to carry out a thorough and objective check.
In the case of phrases or figures, these are selected based on their public relevance, and in terms of images and videos, they are used to verify the available technological tools.
The sources used are always cited, we do not work or publish issues off the record.
Regarding the grading system we use, these are:
True: The phrase or fact proved to be real after contrasting sources and data.
True, but… : The fact or sentence has consistency, but it omits data, elements or part of its context.
Inaccurate: The fact or statement is consistent with the available information, but omits data or takes it out of context.
Misleading: The fact or statement may have consistency, but shows that it could have been manipulated to mislead.

Section 6: A commitment to an Open & Honest Corrections Policy
To be compliant on corrections policy, applicants must meet these five criteria
- 6.1 The applicant has a corrections or complaints policy that is easily visible and accessible on the organization’s website or frequently referenced in broadcasts.
- 6.2 The policy sets out clear definitions of what it does and does not cover, how major mistakes, especially those requiring revised conclusions of a fact check, are handled, and the fact that some complaints may justify no response. This policy is adhered to scrupulously.
- 6.3 Where credible evidence is provided that the applicant has made a mistake worthy of correction, the applicant makes a correction openly and transparently, seeking as far as possible to ensure that users of the original see the correction and the corrected version.
- 6.4 The applicant, if an existing signatory, should either on its corrections/complaints page or on the page where it declares itself an IFCN signatory inform users that if they believe the signatory is violating the IFCN Code, they may inform the IFCN, with a link to the IFCN site.
- 6.5 If the applicant is the fact-checking unit of a media company, it is a requirement of signatory status that the parent media company has and adheres to an open and honest corrections policy.
Criteria 6.1
Proof you meet criteria
Please provide a link to where you publish on your website your corrections or complaints policy. If you are primarily a broadcaster, please provide evidence you frequently reference your corrections policy in broadcasts.

In the methodology page, Mala Espina Check informs users on how to proceed in case they want to inform the IFCN of any violation of the Code of Principles.
However, the applicant indicates its own email address as the contact to which user are invited to send their reports on such violations. This is inadequate, since it is the web of IFCN which should be indicated for submitting such claims, more especifically this page of IFCN Complaints Policy.

Upon this request of edits, the applicant agreed to change the email address to which it suggested sending the complaints. Now it clearly explains that such complaints should be sent directly to the IFCN and, as requested, it provides a link to the IFCN Complaints Policy page to do so: "If you believe that we are violating the Code of Principles of the International Fact Checking Network (IFCN) you can send a request to IFCN in this form" (assessor's translation).
