Tempo is an independent media group in Indonesia that focus on quality and investigative journalism. We publish in three formats: weekly magazine, daily newspapers and online website. Fact checking is our latest project to strengthen our service to our growing digital audience, so we made a special section for it in this URL: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/
Our factchecking initative was first launched three years ago during the Jakarta's governor election. At the time, we fact check the election debate and misinformation/disinformation campaign during the election.
The special channel on our website for fact checking was launched in January 2018. It can be accessed from our front page and we called "Verifikasi" or Verification. It compiles all of our previous fact checking articles in one channel so it is more easy to be discovered. We also started our collaboration with Mafindo and their factcheck website: "TurnBackHoax.id". Mafindo is a non profit citizen-led fact-checking initiative in Indonesia.

Cekfakta.tempo.co is part of Tempo Media group, and it has affiliation with Mafindo, and also collaborate with other media to establish CekFakta.Com as the platform to confirm whether it is a hoax or not.
It has certain methodology (see: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/metodologi), and also provides link how to submit suggestion, which is directly linked to Mafindo (See: https://turnbackhoax.id/lapor-hoax/).
What is not clear is how the Mafindo distinguish the claim is coming from the Cekfakta.tempo.co or other source? This question will be linked to the content of Cekfakta.tempo.co. How the content is selected and also produced by Tempo's Cekfakta team?

To maintain a coherent standard, we apply the same methods in all of our factchecking articles. First, we discuss the scope of the mis/disinformation and only if it meets our criteria, we decide to factcheck it. Our criteria is published in the channel and readers can find it in this URL link: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/metodologi
After we decide which mis/disinformation to check, we apply several verification steps such as : finding the original source, verify the claim with public database, finding if there is a manipulation of the images or videos etc. We always share publicly all the sources we used in fact checking a claim. Those references usually are written at the bottom of our fact checking articles. Sources that can be used for this purpose has to publish facts that can be verified independently, and belong to a credible and authoritative institution on the matters. We also use more than two sources each time.
Our factcheckers have been trained in Google News Initiative verification program. Our methods are also published in the channel.

We outlined our methods in finding sources of mis/disinformation in this URL link: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/metodologi We stated that the four criteria for an information to be verified in this channel is: how the information is important for the public, is it claimed to be facts, is it widely discussed (viral) and is it already fact checked before.
For the mis/disinformation itself, we have access to Facebook dashboard for third party fact checkers, we also receive inputs from the public via a form that we publish on our site. The form is managed by Mafindo and we have an agreement with Mafindo to collaborate in verifying those inputs.
After we decide on which mis/disinformation to check, we verify it using standard fact checking methods. We have five labels for the conclusion: correct, half correct, unproven, misleading, and false. We published the labels and its definition on our channel. In the published articles, we guide our readers on the evidences and process to reach that conclusion. We also invite our readers to comment or send correction if they find errors in our finding.
The choices of fact checks articles covered various social, economy and political issues and actors at local, provincial and national scopes of Indonesia.

Our fact checking methodology is stated here: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/metodologi
In that section, we explain how we choose our issue/hoax to be debunked or verified, and how do we do it. First we need to check the validity of the claim, making sure it was indeed said or stated by public officials or viral on social media. After that, we check open sources to get the public data and then verify it ourselves by interviews and observation to the field. Since we are also operates as newsroom, it gives us a benefit, because we can send trained and qualified reporters as fact-checkers to check claims or false information.
In this URL link: https://cekfakta.tempo.co/metodologi we also stated that the four criteria for an information to be verified in this channel is: how the information is important for the public, is it claimed to be facts, is it widely discussed (viral) and is it already fact checked before.
