From the assessor:

Tirto has improved its transparency process for funding and research methodology, by following actions: added a page related to fact checking methodology at https://tirto.id/insider/metodologiriset, put specific email address for readers to give feedback through factcheck@tirto.id and gave information on the funders of Tirto in its about us page. Based on my assessment, the correction policy should be more adjusted. In general, assessor is recommending Tirto to be part of International Fact Checking Network.

The organization is compliant with most of principles but should make edits to be accepted. The main areas for improvement are its transparency policies, related to: sources, funding, methodology and correction. Based on this assessment, assessor thinks that improvements for those issues are doable if Tirto willing to comply fully with this checklist. The other issue that needs a slight improvement is organizational compliance.

Assessor know the owner and CEO of Tirto, Mr. Atmaji Sapto Anggoro but this does not affect impartiality of this assessment. Correspondences during assessment process were with Mr. Arlian Buana Crissandi.

There are two annexes for this checklist:

Annex I: Correspondences document

Tirto is not an exclusively set up fact checking organization but has a distinct fact-checking section on the website (https://tirto.id/q/periksa-data-gqo) Though this does not directly reflect on its organizational structure –some of the writers of that specific section are part of the research department.

The second level is intergovernmental organization (ex: UN), international institution (ex: world bank, IMF), reliable consultant and research institution (ex: BCG, Nielsen) and top-tier journal (ex: AMA). The third level is national news agency.
