Experience
As a digital trainer, mostly focused in data journalism and verification, I deliver training and advisory about how to use digital tools in journalism and communication, always bearing in mind that "computers are stupid machines that need smart people to work at their best". My experience includes: - in 2019-2020 I was Teaching Fellow for Italy at the Google News Lab and I trained more than 2,500 journalists on Google tools for data visualisation, maps and online verification. - since 2015 I work at the Istituto per la Formazione al Giornalismo of Urbino, where I do workshops on data journalism and I am a online journalism trainer. In the meantime, I have worked also with the Master in Journalism "Giorgio Bocca", in Turin, where I train students about data journalism and newsletter. I have 17-years experience as a journalist. I am an expert on data journalism and I think this job as a mix of contents and technologies aimed to tell people's stories through innovative and tailor made formats, built for an audience who look for a selected and comprehensive information. I research, project and realise, even in partnership with other freelancers, journalistic startups and newsrooms, innovative news formats and contents to deliver via digital channels. About my experience: - I am Head of Content at Good Morning Italia, a journalist startup that sends every morning a daily briefing with the "news to know" of the day; - I co-founded and managed for six years (2014-2020) a media startup, Viz&Chips, that created data visualizations and data games for newsrooms (La Stampa, Ansa), business (FCA, LastMinute.com, Pearson) and NGOs (Action Aid Italia, Fondazione Telethon); - as a freelance I wrote for about ten years about business for Il Sole 24 Ore and about foreign news for the weekly magazine Il Venerdì di Repubblica. During this time I also worked as a fixer and radio reporter for BBC World and BBC Radio 5.
